Summary | Experts think that new social apps such as Snapchat are dangerous; they can encourage sexting and cyberbullying. Teenagers don't want to be on Facebook anymore because their parents and grandparents have a Facebook account. They want something more private; Snapchat is thus perfect. It's quick, simple, and 'snaps' disappear after a few seconds. However, Snapchat can be dangerous and encourage sexting and bullying. People still have time to take screenshots of snaps. Marc Masip, director of the psychological institute 'Desconect@' thinks that Snapchat does not bring anything good. It can lead teenagers to suicide or fear of going to class. Young people don't know anything about the risks of such platforms because nobody warned them. Parents should not give a phone to their kids under 13. When today's teenagers are 40, they will be used to communicate through a screen and won't have social skills to communicate face-to-face.

Summary | Human beings have three vital functions: communication, reproduction, and drinking/eating. Nowadays, people can satisfy these three functions online. Some might say that sharing naked pictures online is egocentric, but others try to normalize online nudity (e.g. with #FreeTheNipple and #Nutscapes). Another example is frexting (friends + texting); people send (half) naked pictures of themselves to friends instead of sending them to everyone on social media. Unlike popular beliefs, the author of the article found out that users who practice frexting can be males, females, and from different sexual orientations. Unlike sexting and the idealization of bodies, frexting is a way to go beyond the pressure of body representation. Frexting equals normalization and ridicule.

Summary | The Australian Naphtine government wants to loosen child pornography prosecution laws to exclude non-exploitative consensual sexting among minors. The reason for this change is that young people’s careers can suffer because they got placed on the sex offenders register for sexting while underage. Minors who distribute intimate imagery of a peer will still be prosecuted but not land on the child pornography offenders list for life.

Summary | More and more cases of teenagers' sexts becoming public are reported. These youths feel less vulnerable showing their body through an image than in person but really they are making themselves much more vulnerable to abuse because they share a record of their intimate behavior. Many male teenagers collect girls' sexts as trophies that they can whip out any time and share with their peers. Oftentimes, vindictive ex-partners publish nude images online after the breakup. Because of the large reach of the internet victims of sexting abuse can become infamous over night which ruins their reputation, makes them guilty of producing or distributing child pornography, and has even lead one 13 year old girl to commit suicide. Parents are urged to have frank discussions about this issue with their children.
