Summary | Many people love voice messages because they just quickly want to share something that needs to be told rather than transformed into text. But it is not possible to listen to voice messages in all social situations like in a lecture. Now there are apps to help with that: textify and textr can transform voice messages into text so that one can discretely get the message if one cannot listen to it right then and there. The apps work for WhatsApp and most other similar messaging apps.

Summary | It is prohibited to take a smartphone into your hand while driving - not to text, not to call, and not to check notifications or the time. One can use their smartphone via voice control or if it is mounted on the dashboard as a navigational unit. More and more car-targeted apps are becoming voice operated so as to make them useful for drivers.

Summary | The new iPhone operational system has a couple of new updates. There will be a new control unit and user surface making the iPhone increasingly similar to a full Mac. The in-house messenger iMessage has a lot of new emojis and stickers and allows the users to be more creative with their texting. It is however still no threat to WhatsApp because only Apple users can use iMessage. Siri no also speaks a bunch of new languages: she will be able to translate English into German, Chinese, Spanish, French or Italian.

Summary | The new iPhone X has a new safety feature. Instead of the finger print, it scans the face of the user to unlock or transfer payments on Apple Pay. The face scanner is 3D so that it cannot be tricket with a photograph of the owner. It is artificially intelligent and can recognize the device owner despite different hairstyles, beards, glasses, and so on. The face scanner can also find an emoji which mimicks the users facial expression.

Summary | The new emoji movie for children is an animated film starring emojis as its main protagonists. Critics find it quite distasteful because it is full of casual advertising for major tech companies and because it does not address the danger of the internet at all. In Textopolis, the world in which emojis live, alphabetic letters are depicted as elderly with walking canes because the youth does not use letters anymore.

At C.D.C., a Debate Behind Recommendations on Cellphone Risk
Newspaper | The New York Times
Date | 1.1.2016
Language | German
Country | Germany
Topic Tags | (mental) health, brain, childhood, research/study, smartphone, threat
Summary | A controversy has sparked over the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's health recommendation regarding cell phones. They had reviewed research on brain tumor risk connected with cell phone use and decided that the data were not convincing enough. Their recommendation was that cell phone users need not be more cautious with cell phones than other daily lifestyle choices. However, the research is also not extensive enough to disprove an increased risk of brain tumor with high rates of cell phone use, especially for children. In response to the backlash to this recommendation, their stance was revised a few times so that it now states that the C.D.C. does not recommend caution but other organizations do.
