Summary | 10 years ago, we couldn't find an address on a online map, buy products online, or take a picture. Today, we can do so many things just with once device, which definitely changed our habits. The smartphone is like a digital swiss knife that we can bring with us anywhere. Our communicative habits have also been changed with the introduction of messaging apps such as WhatsApp. Finally, the fact that anyone can take pictures with a phone has made photography a more amateurish practice.

Summary | More and more parents take a lot of pictures of their newborn before holding him/her for the first time. As a result, a hospital in the Swiss German part of Switzerland decided to impose a new rule: no screen during mother-baby nap. The problem especially affects the younger generation (under 30). Parents seem to pay more attention to their smartphone, which is alarming. For instance, mothers post pictures of themselves in labor. There are no special rules in Geneva, but doctors and midwives are thinking about alternatives. An excessive use of smartphones can also have a negative impact on children's development.

Summary | We all know that we should turn off our phone if we go see a play, for instance. Some people still pick up their phone in the middle of performances. However, for some shows, the audience can be asked to use their phone (e.g. send a text to choose the casting). Besides that, new technologies are not an integrated part of plays.

Summary | Céline Cabourg and Boris Manenti answer some questions related to Millennials and their digital world. They say that today, the gap between teenagers and adults is getting more important. For instance, one teenager told Manenti that adults have different Facebook profiles; they only post pictures of their family and their vacation. In sum, they don't use social media the same way as young people. Moreover, teenagers view their smartphone as their best friend and not as a tool. What about "You Porn Generation"? It is true that children as young as 10 can have access to porn. Parents have an important role to play in their relationship with their children, and they should have open discussions with them.

Summary | According to a study, young people spend an average of 2 hours and 30 minutes online during the week, and 3 hours and 40 minutes on the weekend. Also, young people cannot live without their smartphone. They don't usually use their phone to make phone calls or text; they rather use their phone for social media (e.g. Snapchat, Instagram). Even though young people spend a lot of time on their phone, they still meet with friends face-to-face. Smartphones do not replace physical relationships. Finally, families should have rules for new media use at home.

Summary | A psychiatrist talks about the relationship between children and screens. Before 3 years old, adults should always be there and should only use screens on a short period of time, to entertain. But it is important to also use traditional toys so that children do not think their parents only think of digital devices. Moreover, it is important to have rules: no tablet during dinner, nor to calm down a child. Also, tablets should not be used at night because of the light. Smartphones should only be used by parents; children should not use them to play.

Summary | A school principal explains how digital devices can help children learn. He wants to progressively digitize 50% of the school material. Smartphones and laptops don't ruin the school system; we just need to know how to use them. At his private school, everyone has a an iPad where they can find their class material. Now, the school provides each child with an iPad, but soon everyone will bring their own device. Our digitized society has the advantage of tightening social relationships between people, which is something not everyone agrees with.
