Summary | Facebook’s head of global policy management recently agreed to remove anything that violates the Vietnamese law from the social network. Governments around the world (even in the US) are increasingly trying to keep control of what's happening online. As a result, governments and big tech companies such as Google, Apple, Facebook or Amazon don't always agree with each other. On the one hand, big tech companies want to have more control and power, and on the other hand, nations want to gain more control over people's online behvior. Facebook's desire to expand everywhere (e.g. in China) is one of the reasons for today's struggle between tech companies and nations. Facebook also faced some issues in Europe and Africa.

A way to do this is to assign homework that involves parents or involve parents in a school day. However, not all parents have time for this because they work a lot. Another way to keep parents involved in their children's schoolwork is sharing it with them on social media. There are programs to share photos or classwork videos with parents.

Topic Tags | censorship, Facebook, fake news, politics, social media, threat
Summary | Many countries are trying to combat fake news and urging Facebook to find ways of combatting fake news. They influence elections by deceiving people and that is a great problem. It is nearly impossible to identify fake news with a program, it takes a human. Facebook is now allowing users to flag suspicious content, which is then reviewed and if deemed fake, labeled as such and displayed with a lower priority. Fake news are not taken off of Facebook because that would be censorship.

Summary | Nowadays, the perfect crime seems to be the one that is retransmitted live. Does that mean that fame triggers more violence? Social media have changed a lot of things, and one of them is the chosen way to commit a murder. Indeed, it seems that the need for public display generated some changes in people's life, relationships and egos -which anyone can see- but also an incitement to murder. Would the Cleveland murder have happened without Facebook live?

Summary | A Parisian study found that the city with the most active Twitter users is Jakarta. The city with 10 million residents is said to retain the mentality of a village through the extensive use of social media. Because of Indonesia's history of corrupt politicians and frequent natural as well as anthropogenic catastrophes, Indonesians have developed an unbreakable sense of humor in the face of terrifying news. Especially since the end of a dictatorship which censored free speech, Indonesians are excessively going to social media to post memes and otherwise poke fun at politicians.
